Kashipur, Aug 24 [UDN}: A meeting was held at the local Jagannath Temple regarding the proposed reorganization and formation of a new Tikiri Block. The meeting was convened by Tikiri Sarpanch Jagabandhu Majhi and was attended by sarpanches and panchayat samiti members from various panchayats, leaders of different political parties, and prominent intellectuals.
The meeting decided to strongly present the demand of the people of the Tikiri region before the state government. It may be noted that during the reorganization of Rayagada district in 1993, a proposal had been made to divide Kashipur Block and establish a new block at Tikiri. Under the supervision of the then Tahasildar Trinath Nahak, a map determining the boundaries of the proposed new block was prepared.
The proposed new block would include parts of the Kodipari and Gorakhpur panchayats. At various times, memoranda have been submitted to the district administration, concerned departmental ministers and the Chief Minister demanding the creation of the new block.
Following the state government’s decision to consider the reorganization of blocks for administrative convenience, a delegation met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in September last year and submitted a memorandum. The Chief Minister had assured the delegation that their demand would be given priority.
A committee has now been formed to collect the opinions of residents of the 12 panchayats proposed to be included in the new block and once again put forward a strong demand before the government.
Those present at the meeting included Kashipur Block Chairman Kantha Majhi, BSP State President Saroj Kumar Naik, former MLA Bibhishan Majhi, MP’s representative Sandhu Majhi, MLA’s representative Jijuru Majhi, Bidyadhar Duria, Binod Naik, Har Prasad Nayak, Upendra Patra, Bijayratna Choudhury, Gaurang Sahu, Indrajit Sahu, Santosh Mohanty, Gopal Sahu, Lalbahadur Duria, Mohan Dandsena, Ramnath Majhi and others.
