Koraput, Aug 24: Continuous rainfall has brought fresh challenges for families across Koraput district, with several areas experiencing waterlogging, damaged houses and rising water levels in rivers, streams and other water bodies.
Rain has continued across the district for three consecutive days, disrupting normal activities and making life particularly difficult for people living in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
According to the district emergency department, Koraput received a cumulative 638 mm of rainfall between 8 am on Sunday and 8 am on Monday. Jeypore recorded the highest rainfall during the period at 96 mm.
The prolonged downpour has taken a visible toll on residential areas. Several houses in Koraput, Laxmipur and Machhkund have reportedly suffered partial damage. In Dasmantpur block, two houses reportedly collapsed following the continuous rain. The full extent of the damage and information regarding possible injuries were still being assessed at the time of the report.
For affected families, the situation is more than a weather emergency. Damaged homes can leave people worried about the safety of children, elderly family members, belongings and essential household items. Persistent waterlogging can also make it difficult for residents to travel, reach workplaces, access markets and maintain normal routines.
