Bhubaneswar, Sept 5 [UDN}: MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy Thanks Chief Minister and School & Mass Education Minister for Upgrading 12 High Schools in Ganjam into Higher Secondary (+2) Schools
The upgraded Higher Secondary Schools will become operational from the 2026–27 academic session under the Samagra Shiksha programme.
Ten Arts streams and two Science streams have been approved across 11 blocks of Ganjam district.
The initiative is a major step towards strengthening higher secondary education in rural areas and reducing the school dropout rate, particularly among girl students.
Berhampur: Berhampur Lok Sabha MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy has expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi and School & Mass Education Minister Shri Nityananda Gond for the upgradation of 12 government high schools in Ganjam district into Higher Secondary (+2) Schools, following the recommendation of the Project Approval Board (PAB) under the Government of India’s Samagra Shiksha programme.
According to Notification No. 22679/SME dated August 31, 2026, issued by the School & Mass Education Department, a total of 71 high schools across Odisha have been upgraded to Higher Secondary Schools. Ganjam district has received the highest number, with 12 schools selected for upgradation.
All these schools will begin providing education in their respective approved streams from the 2026–27 academic session.

1. S.R.K. Nodal High School, Kendubadi, Polasara Block – Arts
2. Talasara Nodal High School, Beguniapada Block – Arts
3. Government U.G. High School, M. Tentulia, Polasara Block – Arts
4. Government U.G. High School, C.H. Nuagaon, Purushottampur Block – Arts
5. Govindpur High School, Govindpur, Sheragada Block – Arts
6. Rayat High School, Jagannathprasad (J.N. Prasad) Block – Arts
7. Jagadalpur High School, Gunthapada, Asika Block – Arts
8. S.P.M.R. Vidyapitha, Jaradagada, Patrapur Block – Arts
9. K.S. High School, Balunkeswar Nagar, Rangeilunda Block – Arts
10. Gokarnapur Nodal High School, Digapahandi Block – Arts
11. Bipulangi High School, Chhatrapur Block – Science
12. Bhagabati Vidyapitha, Burupada, Hinjilikatu Block – Science
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Dr. Panigrahy stated that the opening of 10 Arts streams and 2 Science streams in rural and remote areas will ensure that students no longer have to travel to distant towns and cities to pursue higher secondary education.
He noted that the initiative would be particularly beneficial in reducing the post-matric dropout rate among girls in rural areas, as access to higher secondary education will now be available closer to their homes.
Dr. Panigrahy further stated that he would maintain continuous coordination with the district and state administrations to ensure that all necessary infrastructure, classrooms, laboratories and teacher appointments are put in place before the beginning of the 2026–27 academic session.
