Missing Auto Driver Found Dead in Kuakhai River After 36-Hour Search

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9 (UDN): The body of a missing auto-rickshaw driver was recovered from the Kuakhai River near Balianta on Wednesday, bringing to an end a 36-hour search operation led by emergency response teams.

The deceased, identified as Sanjay Swain of Harachandi Sahi, was traced near Lingipur, around two kilometres downstream from Tankapani Bridge, where investigators had earlier found personal belongings that pointed towards the river.

Personnel from the Balianta Fire Service located the body after an extensive search carried out in coordination with the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF). Police reached the spot soon after the recovery, while family members also arrived at the scene.

The body was later sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Belongings Found on Bridge Sparked Search

According to reports, Sanjay had left home on the night of September 7 after an argument with his wife.

Shortly afterwards, his auto-rickshaw, slippers, vehicle keys and mobile phone were found on Tankapani Bridge, prompting fears that he had entered the river.

Based on those findings, rescue teams launched a joint search operation that continued for nearly 36 hours before his body was eventually recovered.

Police have initiated further proceedings while awaiting the post-mortem report.
