Bhubaneswar, Sept 25 [UDN}:From October 1, 2026, LPG consumers will reportedly need to complete Aadhaar-based biometric authentication (BAA) to continue receiving LPG subsidies. Consumers who have already completed the biometric authentication process will not be required to repeat it.
The authentication can reportedly be completed at the LPG distributor’s showroom, during cylinder delivery, or through the concerned Oil Marketing Company (OMC) mobile application, where authentication facilities are available.
Consumers who do not complete BAA will still be able to purchase LPG cylinders, but they will reportedly have to pay the prevailing market price without subsidy. The measure is aimed at identifying genuine beneficiaries and preventing duplicate, inactive or ineligible LPG connections from receiving government subsidy benefits.
According to the information circulated by Satya News Odisha, as of September 19, around 27.43 crore LPG biometric authentications had been completed, covering approximately 89.9% of LPG consumers.
The authentication drive is intended to ensure that LPG subsidy benefits are transferred only to eligible consumers. Smaller 5-kg and 10-kg cylinders may also be available for consumers who require alternative cylinder sizes.
The reported subsidy for a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in September was around ₹210 per cylinder. Consumers are therefore being advised to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication before the new requirement takes effect, particularly if they wish to continue receiving the subsidy.
