Bhubaneswar, June 26 (UDN): Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Surama Padhy, has constituted more than 35 House Committees for the financial year 2026–27, reinforcing the Assembly’s legislative oversight and procedural framework.
Among the key committees formed are the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Rules Committee, Committee of Privileges, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Committee on Petitions, and the Library Committee.
The Rules Committee will be chaired by Speaker Surama Padhy. Its members include senior ministers Dr. Mukesh Mahaling and Prithiviraj Harichandan, Government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, and MLAs Pratap Keshari Deb, Tusharkanti Behera, and Sagar Charan Das.
Senior BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra has been appointed Chairman of the Committee of Privileges. The committee comprises Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Saroj Kumar Pradhan, Congress Legislature Party Leader Rama Chandra Kadam, Niranjan Pujari, and Prasanna Acharya.
The Speaker has nominated Biju Janata Dal Legislature Party Chief Whip Pramila Mallik as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
Irasis Acharya has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, while Prasanta Kumar Jagadev will head the Committee on Petitions.
Actor-turned-politician and MLA Akash Dasnayak has been named Chairman of the Library Committee. The committee also includes 11 suspended MLAs as members.
The constitution of these committees is expected to enhance legislative scrutiny, strengthen parliamentary oversight, and facilitate the smooth functioning of the Odisha Legislative Assembly during the 2026–27 financial year.
