Jharsuguda:April. 28: In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, a high-level coordination meeting was held between the administrations of Odisha and Chhattisgarh to ensure the safety of workers and drivers in key industrial zones, mining belts, and transport corridors shared by both states.
The Hon’ble Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari joined the meeting virtually and emphasized the importance of coordination and information sharing between the two states. A comprehensive roadmap has been prepared to protect industrial workers and drivers transporting goods across the states from the effects of the heatwave.
Special attention was given to the safety of truck drivers and helpers traveling along National Highway-49, which is considered a sensitive corridor during extreme heat conditions. The Minister stressed that preventing loss of life due to heatwave is a primary responsibility of the police and administration. He directed officials to prepare a dedicated plan for safety arrangements and temporary shelters, especially after 11 AM.
He also emphasized the installation of Sintex water tanks and drinking water facilities near Gobindpur Toll Plaza.

The Jharsuguda Collector informed that precautionary measures are being taken and heatwave-prone areas are under special surveillance. The Raigarh Collector stressed awareness among drivers and the creation of safety corridors.
Key Decisions Taken:
Restriction on movement of non-AC transport vehicles from 11 AM to 3 PM during April and May
Ban on outdoor work for laborers during peak heat hours (11 AM to 3 PM)
Recommendation to convert vehicle cabins into air-conditioned cabins
Installation of hydration kiosks and water distribution points at petrol pumps and key locations
Arrangement of mobile water kiosks near Gobindpur Toll Plaza
Provision of shade, drinking water, rest rooms, and first aid in truck parking areas
Use of water sprinklers on roads
Deployment of ambulances at key points along NH-49
Arrangement of water troughs for animals and birds
Linking life insurance with vehicle insurance for drivers
Availability of ORS (oral rehydration solution) at various points through medical teams
Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Kishore Chandra Swain delivered the welcome address. Sub-Collector Sabyasachi Panda, Emergency Officer Mrutyunjay Sabar, labor officers, and regional transport officers from both districts were also present.
The meeting emphasized coordinated efforts among all departments to effectively tackle the heatwave situation.
