Bhubaneswar, Oct 29 [UDN}: Severe winds and continuous rainfall triggered by Cyclone ‘Arnab’ have disrupted normal life in several parts of Odisha, particularly in the southern districts. Uprooted trees have blocked National Highways and other roads, severely affecting transportation and communication networks. In response to the challenging situation, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has launched large-scale rescue and restoration operations on a war footing to minimise disruptions and ensure public safety.
A total of 20 ODRAF units, comprising 60 sub-units, have been deployed across 14 districts affected by the cyclone. These teams are operating in Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Khordha, among other affected areas.
Working in close coordination with the respective district administrations, ODRAF personnel are actively engaged in rescue operations, disaster management and the removal of fallen trees and other obstructions from roads to restore normal traffic movement and connectivity. Special emphasis is being placed on clearing blocked routes and ensuring that essential services and emergency assistance can reach affected communities without delay.
The ODRAF teams remain on high alert to respond to emerging emergencies in the aftermath of the cyclone. Ensuring the safety of residents, providing timely emergency assistance and restoring essential transportation and communication infrastructure remain key priorities as the state continues its response to Cyclone Arnab.
