Odisha MLAs Visit Telangana Assembly to Study Legislative Practices, Departmental Functioning

Seven-member delegation holds discussions on governance, budget scrutiny and committee functioning

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 11 (UDN): A seven-member delegation of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is on a study visit to Telangana to gain insights into the functioning of government departments, legislative committees and budgetary oversight mechanisms.

The delegation is being led by Sudhir Ranjan Pattjoshi, Chairman of Departmental Standing Committee-7. The visit began on August 6 and is aimed at understanding administrative practices and exploring mechanisms that could help strengthen the functioning of Odisha’s legislative system.

The delegation includes Standing Committee members Tusharkanti Behera, Tankadhar Tripathy, Agasti Behera and Durga Charan Tanti. Legislative Assembly Committee chairpersons Ishwar Chandra Nayak and Prashant Kumar Das are also part of the team.

Meeting With Telangana Assembly Functionaries

On August 7, the Odisha legislators visited the Telangana State Legislative Assembly and paid courtesy calls on the Speaker, Chairman of the Legislative Council and chairpersons of relevant committees.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with senior officials from several departments to understand their administrative structure, functioning and management practices.

Detailed discussions were held on the functioning of the Industries Department, Steel and Mines Department, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Commerce and Transport Department, Planning and Convergence Department, and Skill Development and Technical Education Department.

Focus on Budgetary Oversight

The Odisha delegation also studied the functioning of various committees of the Telangana Legislature, particularly their role in examining departmental activities and reviewing budgets.

The interactions provided an opportunity for the legislators and officials to exchange ideas, experiences and best practices relating to legislative procedures, departmental administration and financial oversight.

The study tour is expected to help the Odisha legislators identify effective practices followed in Telangana that could potentially be adapted to improve departmental monitoring, committee functioning and legislative oversight in Odisha.

The visit underlines the importance of inter-state knowledge sharing in strengthening parliamentary and administrative practices and making legislative institutions more effective.
