The proposed facility at Sahaspur industrial estate is being developed with the aim of creating a specialised base for companies involved in railway equipment, components and engineering solutions.

The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) has completed a preliminary assessment and taken up land-development work for the proposed park. A detailed project report has also been prepared.

The project is expected to create opportunities for both established companies and smaller businesses involved in railway manufacturing and allied activities. By bringing different parts of the supply chain closer together, the park could help companies improve collaboration, access infrastructure and explore new business opportunities.

For local industries, the project could open avenues in component manufacturing, fabrication, engineering services, maintenance, logistics and other supporting activities.

The proposed rail-tech park also comes as India continues to expand railway infrastructure and place greater emphasis on domestic manufacturing of railway equipment and technology.

Officials familiar with the proposal said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is expected to launch the park soon.

For Odisha, the project represents more than the development of another industrial estate. It could help create skilled employment, attract fresh investment and give local enterprises an opportunity to participate in the country’s expanding railway supply chain.

If successfully implemented, the Khordha facility could emerge as a specialised hub connecting railway technology, manufacturing and engineering talent, while adding a new dimension to Odisha’s industrial growth story.
