Bhubaneswar, Sept 23 [UDN}:In view of the forecast of heavy rainfall, Odisha Transport Commissioner held a review meeting with all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) through video conferencing, following the directions of Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena and the guidelines issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).
During the meeting, the Transport Commissioner directed all RTOs to accord the highest priority to emergency services and road safety during the period of adverse weather.
The RTOs were instructed to impose restrictions on vehicular movement through floodwater and waterlogged roads and maintain close surveillance over vulnerable and accident-prone stretches. Wherever necessary, traffic movement should be stopped or routes diverted to ensure public safety.
The Transport Department has also directed officials to keep control rooms fully operational, intensify night-time patrolling on vulnerable roads, and closely monitor road conditions during heavy rainfall.
To ensure a prompt response to emergencies, cranes are also to be stationed at vulnerable locations along National Highways, enabling authorities to quickly clear stranded or damaged vehicles and respond to road-related emergencies.
The measures are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted emergency services while minimising risks to commuters during the anticipated spell of heavy rainfall across Odisha.
