Bhubaneswar, July 11 (UDN): Young hockey player Sunelita Toppo from Odisha has been selected for the Indian women’s hockey squad for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, scheduled from September 18 to October 2.
The talented midfielder from Sundargarh has earned her place in the 20-member squad following her impressive performances at national and international levels. She was also part of the Indian team that won the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in Rajgir.
The Indian team will be led by Salima Tete, with a mix of experienced players and young talents aiming for a strong performance at the continental tournament.
Sunelita’s selection adds another achievement to Odisha’s rich hockey legacy. She began her journey by playing hockey in her village and later rose through the ranks after impressive performances at national competitions. She made her international debut during the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023–24.
The inclusion of Sunelita Toppo in the national squad highlights the continued contribution of Odisha’s Sundargarh region to Indian hockey. The team will aim to secure a medal at the upcoming Asian Games.
