Bhadrak, Sept. 10 (UDN): Three shops were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at Basudevpur’s main market in Odisha’s Bhadrak district late Wednesday night, causing property damage worth lakhs of rupees.

The blaze erupted near College Chhak, triggering panic among shopkeepers and local residents as flames quickly engulfed the commercial establishments.
According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. An electrical goods shop and two steel railing shops suffered extensive damage, with goods and equipment inside the establishments being completely destroyed.
Fire brought under control after operation
On receiving the alert, personnel from the Basudevpur Fire Services rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. After sustained efforts, the team managed to contain and extinguish the blaze before it could spread to nearby shops.
However, by the time the flames were brought under control, all three shops had been completely gutted.
Probe underway
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
No casualties were reported, while officials were yet to issue a detailed statement on the extent of the losses at the time of reporting.
