Bhubaneswar: Sept 30 [UDN}:The area under agricultural land in Odisha has declined, while the area under paddy cultivation has increased, the State Government informed the Assembly.
Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo gave the information in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Pratap Deb.
According to the reply, paddy cultivation has increased in seven districts of the state during the current agricultural year. The districts are Bargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nuapada, Puri and Nayagarh.
The government data showed that paddy was cultivated over 37.49 lakh hectares during 2024-25. The area increased to 39.42 lakh hectares in 2025-26, indicating a rise of around 1.93 lakh hectares.
Meanwhile, farmers have registered for cultivation over 36.18 lakh hectares of land during the current year, according to the information placed before the House.
The figures indicate that despite a reduction in the overall area of agricultural land, paddy cultivation has expanded in the state, particularly across the seven districts identified by the government.
