Puri, July 22 (UDN): The sacred preparations for the Bahuda Yatra moved forward in Puri with the successful completion of the Dakshina Moda ritual, as the three chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra were turned southward ahead of their return journey.
The traditional ritual, which holds deep religious significance, was completed after heavy rainfall disrupted the process on Tuesday. While Devi Subhadra’s Devadalana chariot was successfully positioned near the Nakachana Dwara of Gundicha Temple on the first day, the turning of Lord Balabhadra’s Taladhwaja chariot and Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosa chariot had to be delayed due to challenging weather conditions.
On Wednesday morning, the remaining two chariots were carefully turned southward, completing the Dakshina Moda ritual for all three chariots. The completion of this important ceremony marks a key step in the preparations for the grand Bahuda Yatra, when the deities will begin their return journey from Gundicha Temple to the Shree Jagannath Temple.
Following the completion of the ritual, technical inspections of the chariots will be carried out to ensure their readiness and safety before the upcoming procession.
Continuous rainfall has left parts of Saradhabali waterlogged, where the chariots are currently stationed. Authorities have strengthened security arrangements around the chariots with barricading and a dedicated security presence to ensure their protection.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and temple servitors continued efforts to complete the traditional rituals despite weather-related challenges. The smooth completion of Dakshina Moda has brought renewed momentum to preparations for one of Odisha’s most revered religious events.
As devotees eagerly await the Bahuda Yatra, authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions and making necessary arrangements to ensure the festival proceeds safely and smoothly.
