Bhubaneswar,Sept 17 [UDN}:: A high-level review meeting on various issues concerning the Revenue Department was held today at Lok Seva Bhawan, with a detailed discussion on key administrative and land-related matters. The meeting was chaired by the Revenue Minister, who reviewed the progress of several important initiatives with senior officials and emphasised the need for efficient, transparent and technology-driven delivery of revenue services across Odisha.
During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on streamlining online demarcation of land, implementation of the Basundhara scheme, and issuance of land pattas in the names of government and government-aided educational institutions. Officials were advised to ensure that these processes are conducted in a systematic, transparent and time-bound manner so that citizens and institutions do not face unnecessary difficulties in accessing land-related services.
The meeting also focused on allegations and instances of irregularities and fraud involving Bhoodan land in different parts of the state. The authorities stressed the need for proper investigation into suspected land fraud and for taking appropriate action wherever violations are established. The government has also placed strong emphasis on the complete digitisation of land and revenue records, with the objective of improving transparency, reducing scope for manipulation and making land-related services more accessible.
The comprehensive digitalisation of revenue records is expected to strengthen the state’s land administration system and help create a more reliable and transparent mechanism for verification of land ownership, records and transactions. Officials were directed to accelerate the digitalisation process and ensure that records are updated accurately.
Another important issue discussed during the meeting was the protection and restoration of the land properties belonging to Mahaprabhu Sri Jagannath. The Revenue Department was advised to take concerted and committed steps for safeguarding Jagannath Temple land and other properties located not only in different districts of Odisha but also in other states.
The protection of these properties is considered an important responsibility of the administration, particularly in view of the need to identify, preserve and restore temple-owned land wherever necessary. Officials were instructed to coordinate with the concerned district administrations and authorities in other states to strengthen efforts for the recovery and protection of Sri Jagannath’s land assets.
The meeting underlined the government’s broader objective of modernising the Revenue Department through digital technology, transparent land management, effective monitoring and stronger protection of public and institutional land. The directions are aimed at improving the efficiency of revenue administration while protecting valuable land resources and ensuring that legitimate beneficiaries receive their rights without delay.
