Jharigaon, March 17: Jharigaon MLA Narsingh Bhatra raised a proposal in the Odisha Legislative Assembly seeking the widening of the Jharigaon–Chandahandi ghat road.
A ghat (hilly stretch) lies midway on the Jharigaon–Chandahandi road, popularly known as the Chandahandi Ghat. Nearly 3 kilometers of this stretch is highly dangerous, and several fatal accidents have occurred there over time.
Currently, road improvement work is underway for the 80-kilometer stretch from Umerkote to Chandahandi. However, it is unfortunate that the 3-kilometer ghat section has been excluded from the project.
For the convenience and safety of local residents, the MLA demanded that the 3-kilometer ghat road be widened. Shri Bhatra requested the concerned Minister through the Speaker to initiate the work within the current year.
After many years, this is the first time an MLA has raised the issue of the ghat road in the Assembly, and the local residents have expressed their gratitude to Shri Bhatra for bringing the matter to attention.
