Sambalpur:Sept 26 [UDN}: The approach road to the ‘Jibanpath’ Old Age Home at Durgapali in Sambalpur district, which had been in a poor condition for several years, was repaired on Thursday through a voluntary initiative led by social worker Aravind Meher.
A team of volunteers placed gravel on the damaged stretch and carried out repair work to make the road more suitable for regular movement. The initiative was undertaken after the difficulties faced by the elderly residents of the old age home, particularly during the rainy season, came to the attention of the social workers.
Poor Road Condition Had Created Difficulties
The road connecting the old age home had reportedly remained in a deplorable condition for the past several years. During the monsoon, the stretch would frequently become muddy and difficult to navigate, causing considerable inconvenience to the elderly residents.
The poor condition of the road also created problems during emergencies. Ambulances and other vehicles often faced difficulty entering the premises of the old age home, making access to essential services more challenging.
Volunteers Step In to Improve Access
Recognising the difficulties faced by the residents, social worker Aravind Meher and his fellow volunteers stepped forward to address the problem. Gravel was laid along the road and the damaged portions were repaired, improving its accessibility for residents, visitors and vehicles.
Sumit Nayak, Hanif, Rajendra Sahu, Trupti Ranjan Panda, Sannyasi Pradhan, Rajesh Singh, Lokesh, Rahul Sahu, Amit Dora and Sribanta Kumbhar, among others, actively assisted in the initiative.
Old age home manager Rajendra Sahu, centre-in-charge Priyanka Das and Pramila Minz were also present during the repair work and encouraged the volunteers.
The initiative has drawn appreciation from local residents, with many praising the social workers for stepping forward to improve basic access to the old age home and make movement easier and safer for its elderly residents.
