Bhubaneswar, July 30 (UDN): A seven-year-old girl, who reportedly went missing from her school in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, was found dead later in the day in a water tank inside the Reserve Police Colony, triggering grief and raising serious questions over student safety.
The deceased, a Class II student of a government school in the Acharya Vihar area, had left home for school in the morning as part of her daily routine. According to her family, they were informed around noon that the child could not be found on the school premises.
Alarmed by the information, family members and local residents launched a frantic search in and around the area. When their efforts yielded no results, the family approached the Saheed Nagar police and lodged a complaint, alleging negligence on the part of the school authorities in ensuring the child’s safety.
Several hours later, residents spotted a child’s body floating in a water tank located within the nearby Reserve Police Colony and immediately alerted the police and the girl’s family. She was rushed to Capital Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern among local residents and parents, with the bereaved family demanding a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s disappearance and death. They have also sought accountability if any lapses on the part of the school or other authorities are established.
Police have launched an investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events from the time the child went missing until her body was recovered. The exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination, and officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
