Rasulpur, Sept 23 [UDN}:: Harekrushna Sahu, 66, former sarpanch of Murupal Gram Panchayat under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district, has been honoured for his longstanding contributions to society and public service.
Sahu is a well-known social worker in the local area and has made a distinct identity through his multifaceted work as a writer, columnist, public servant and social activist. He has particularly worked to highlight and address problems faced by people at the grassroots level.
According to those who have interacted with him, Sahu believes that bringing meaningful improvement to the social system is a difficult and challenging process. He has pursued social service, literature and the ideals of self-governance as interconnected avenues for bringing positive change to society.
Recognising his dedication and contribution, he was felicitated by Ramachandra Shukla, a descendant of a freedom-fighter family, Debabrata Rout, convener of the Activist Forum, Janmejaya Sahu, president of Basanti Charitable Trust, and activist Manas Kumar Acharya.
The organisations assured Sahu of continued support and cooperation and encouraged him to continue his social-service initiatives.
Born into a middle-class family, Sahu completed his postgraduate studies in commerce from MCC College, Baripada. Despite having academic qualifications that could have led him towards a conventional career, he chose public service and literature as the central pursuits of his life.
His self-written work “Baripada Diary” reportedly preserves several untold experiences and memories from his life. During the felicitation, Sahu shared his experiences and spoke about the difficulties he had encountered in his journey. He said that, just as there are no flowers without thorns, life cannot be made easy without facing hardships.
The members of the organisations said they felt privileged to honour a person who has devoted himself to social service and literature. As part of the felicitation, Sahu was also presented with a commemorative publication marking the birth centenary of freedom fighter Baji Rout.
Activist Forum convener Debabrata Rout said the honour was intended to recognise Sahu’s sustained commitment to public service and his efforts to work for people at the grassroots level.
