Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: Work has moved a step forward on the proposed Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan elevated corridor, with soil testing beginning at several locations along the planned route.
The ₹579-crore project is expected to cover about 9.5 km and is being planned to improve traffic movement between Bhubaneswar and the Cuttack side. The ongoing soil investigation will help engineers assess ground conditions and determine the appropriate design and foundation requirements for the elevated structure.
The corridor is being considered as an important infrastructure project for a rapidly expanding part of Bhubaneswar, where increasing traffic volumes have put pressure on existing roads. Once completed, the elevated route is expected to provide an additional, faster movement option and help reduce congestion on busy stretches.
Soil testing is an important preparatory stage before major construction begins. The findings will help authorities identify suitable locations for foundations, understand the strength of the ground and address possible engineering challenges before the main work starts.
For commuters, the proposed corridor is significant because smoother traffic flow could mean shorter travel times and more predictable journeys, particularly on routes that experience heavy traffic during peak hours.
The project is therefore being watched not just as a road-building exercise, but as part of Bhubaneswar’s wider effort to improve urban mobility and prepare its transport network for future growth.
