Bhubaneswar, Sept 19 [UDN}:Odisha is set to introduce new measures to strengthen science education in government schools, with schools receiving special grants for improving laboratory facilities, smart classrooms and practical learning opportunities. State Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed that dedicated financial assistance will be provided to schools to promote science and technology education.
Under the proposed initiative, high schools will be equipped with science laboratories and smart classrooms, while science parks will also be developed to provide students with greater exposure to practical and experimental learning. The government plans to establish a science park in every district, enabling school students to undertake practical activities beyond the conventional classroom environment.
A science park is also proposed at Biribati in Cuttack, according to information shared by the local MLA. The facility is expected to serve as a practical learning centre where students can explore scientific concepts through experiments, demonstrations and hands-on activities.
The special grants will be utilised according to the requirements of individual schools, allowing institutions to spend funds on facilities and resources needed to improve science education. The initiative is aimed at giving greater momentum to science and technology learning and encouraging students to develop practical understanding alongside theoretical knowledge.
The minister said the move would create better opportunities for schoolchildren to engage with science through laboratories, smart learning facilities and science parks. Students will be able to make practical use of the facilities after their regular school learning, helping bridge the gap between textbook-based education and real-world scientific applications.
The initiative marks a new step towards strengthening science education at the school level, with emphasis on practical learning, modern classroom infrastructure and scientific curiosity among students.
