Bhawanipatna, Sept 11 [UDN}:The date for the traditional Nabanna Bhakshana, or the ceremonial consumption of the season’s newly harvested rice, has been officially fixed at the revered shrine of Maa Manikeswari in Bhawanipatna. According to the decision, the auspicious ritual will be observed on September 21.
The annual tradition holds deep religious, cultural, and emotional significance for the people of Kalahandi and the surrounding regions. On this sacred occasion, devotees and members of the local community offer the newly harvested paddy and prepare the first food made from the fresh crop as part of the traditional ritual. The Nabanna Bhakshana ceremony symbolizes gratitude for the harvest, prosperity, and the blessings of the presiding deity, Maa Manikeswari.
The observance of the ritual at the historic Maa Manikeswari shrine is regarded as an important part of Kalahandi’s rich cultural heritage.
