Indravati,Sept 17 [UDN}: In a significant organisational development for the Congress party in Nabarangpur district, senior woman Congress leader P. Nagarunam and young tribal leader Akhel Bhatra, both from Tentulikhunti block, have been appointed as Secretaries of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).
The appointments are being viewed as an important recognition of the organisational experience and grassroots involvement of the two leaders, who have been associated with the Congress party for several years. Their elevation to key positions in the state-level party organisation is expected to strengthen the Congress network in Nabarangpur district and other tribal-dominated areas of southern Odisha.
P. Nagarunam has a long association with the Congress organisation. Before being appointed as an OPCC Secretary, she had served as a member of the Pradesh Congress Committee. She also reportedly served as the President of the Mahila Congress for nearly two decades, during which she remained actively involved in organisational activities and mobilisation of women workers at the grassroots level.
Her long experience in the women’s wing of the party has helped her maintain contact with party workers and local communities. Her appointment to the OPCC is therefore being seen as recognition of her sustained contribution to the Congress organisation and her work among women and grassroots supporters.
Similarly, Akhel Bhatra, a young Congress leader from the Tentulikhunti area, has held several organisational responsibilities in the party. He has previously served as an OPCC member, President of the Nabarangpur District Congress Tribal Cell and President of the District Youth Congress. His experience in youth and tribal organisational activities is expected to be useful in expanding the party’s presence among young people and tribal communities.
OPCC President Bhakta Das has entrusted both Nagarunam and Akhel Bhatra with the responsibility of serving as state-level party secretaries. Following their appointments, the two leaders said they would work sincerely to discharge the responsibilities entrusted to them and focus on strengthening the Congress organisation from the grassroots level.
They expressed their commitment to maintaining close contact with party workers and the public and working towards strengthening the organisational structure of the Congress across the region.
The appointments have generated interest among Congress workers in Nabarangpur district, particularly in the Tentulikhunti area, where both leaders have been associated with party activities for a considerable period.
Meanwhile, several other senior Congress leaders from the district have also found a place in the reconstituted Pradesh Congress Committee organisation. Former minister Parama Pujari, former MLA Bhujabal Majhi, and former Nabarangpur District Congress Committee president Manoranjan Tripathy, popularly known as Muna Tripathy, have also reportedly been included in the OPCC.
The inclusion of experienced leaders along with younger and grassroots-level organisational workers is expected to provide a broader organisational base to the Congress in Nabarangpur and southern Odisha. Party workers hope that the new responsibilities will help improve coordination between the state leadership, district units and grassroots workers.
The latest appointments are also being seen as an opportunity for the Congress to intensify its organisational activities in tribal and rural areas, strengthen its cadre network and remain connected with local issues affecting people in Nabarangpur district.
