Water Discharge Intensifies from Hirakud Reservoir as 10 Gates Opened to Manage Rising Water Levels and Ensure Dam Safety

Hirakud ,Aug 6 [UDN}:The water level in the Hirakud Reservoir is steadily rising. In view of the increasing inflow, authorities have opened 10 sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam to regulate the water level and ensure safe reservoir management.

Over the past two days, the Hirakud Reservoir has been receiving a continuous inflow of more than 300,000 cusecs of water, leading to a significant rise in the reservoir’s storage level. The decision to open 10 gates has been taken as a precautionary measure to safely discharge excess water while closely monitoring the flood situation downstream. Authorities are keeping a constant watch on the reservoir’s inflow and outflow and have advised people living in low-lying areas along the Mahanadi River to remain alert and follow official advisories.
