Bhubaneswar, Aug. 3 (UDN): Devotees across the country observed the first Monday of the holy month of Sawan (Shravan) with deep faith and devotion, offering prayers to Lord Shiva and seeking his divine blessings for peace, prosperity and well-being.

Considered one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar, the first Monday of Sawan witnessed large gatherings at Shiva temples from the early hours of the morning. Devotees performed Jalabhishek, offered bel leaves, milk, flowers and sacred water, and chanted Vedic hymns along with the revered mantra, “Har Har Mahadev.”
Religious scholars believe that worshipping Lord Shiva during the month of Sawan, particularly on Mondays, is highly significant. It is believed to bring spiritual fulfilment, remove obstacles, and bestow health, happiness and prosperity upon devotees.
Temple authorities made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of rituals and facilitate the influx of worshippers. Special prayers, bhajans and devotional programmes were organised at several temples to mark the occasion.
The holy month of Sawan holds immense religious importance for followers of Lord Shiva, with devotees observing fasts, performing special rituals and participating in prayer ceremonies throughout the month.
As chants of “Har Har Mahadev” echoed through temples and streets, the atmosphere reflected devotion, unity and spiritual fervour, marking the beginning of the sacred Mondays of Sawan with reverence and celebration.
