India to Eliminate Tuberculosis by 2025: Union Health Minister JP Nadda

1st March 2025: Union Health Minister JP Nadda announced that India will achieve the goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, ahead of the global target of 2030. Speaking at the 9th National Summit on Public Healthcare in Puri, Nadda shared that 5 lakh TB patients have already been identified as part of the ongoing 100-day TB Mukt Bharat campaign, which will be expanded to aspirational districts.

Nadda emphasized the importance of involving public representatives to help implement health policies effectively. He also addressed the rising concern of non-communicable diseases and urged citizens to reduce oil consumption, as advised by Prime Minister Modi. He proposed using telemedicine to address the shortage of doctors, ensuring access to specialist advice at primary healthcare centers.

The Minister assured that financial support would be provided to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, with ongoing universal screening programs targeting early detection of diseases like diabetes and cancer. Additionally, 200 daycare centers for cancer patients will be established this year, with one in every district by next year.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi affirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing medical infrastructure, including new initiatives like the National Institute for Yoga & Naturopathy and Ayushman Arogya Mandir health centers.
