Odisha Clears INR 1,191 Crore Investment in Renewable Energy Sector

25th April 2025: In a significant stride towards clean and sustainable energy, the Government of Odisha has approved fresh investments worth ₹1,191.47 crore in the renewable energy sector. The approval was granted during the 10th Single Window Committee meeting, chaired by Energy Department Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev.

A total of seven projects received policy clearance, aimed at boosting the state’s green energy capacity by an additional 149.97 megawatts (MW). The approved projects include:

  • Two wind energy projects with a combined capacity of 95.7 MW
  • Four ground-mounted solar energy projects totaling 53.67 MW
  • Odisha’s first-ever battery energy storage system with a capacity of 0.6 MW

These developments are aligned with the targets set under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022, which envisions scaling up clean energy adoption while supporting economic and environmental sustainability.

During the meeting, Principal Secretary Dev emphasized the state’s proactive approach in attracting green investments and highlighted the importance of timely implementation. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to making Odisha a hub for renewable energy.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from departments such as Energy, Water Resources, Revenue, GRIDCO, OPTCL, OHPC, and EIC (Electricity). Additionally, the progress of previously approved projects was reviewed to ensure steady execution.

With this round of approvals, the Single Window Committee has so far cleared renewable energy projects worth over ₹12,387 crore, contributing a cumulative capacity of 1,707.56 MW.

This move reinforces Odisha’s position as a frontrunner in India’s transition toward a green and sustainable energy future.
