Bhubaneswar, May 8 2025: The Odisha state Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved eight significant proposals, including the launch of the Mukhyamantri Bus Seva (MBS) to enhance public transportation across the state. Aimed at inclusive mobility, the scheme offers a 50% fare concession for women, transgenders, students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities on both AC and non-AC buses.
The MBS will connect major business, educational, and healthcare hubs within and beyond Odisha, and is expected to generate employment while supporting local industries. The buses will feature modern safety technologies, including CCTV cameras, live tracking, passenger information systems, panic buttons, and advanced driver assistance systems. The scheme will run through FY2032-33, with provisions for extension based on public needs.
In health sector reforms, the Cabinet also approved the continuation of two major schemes—‘NIDAAN’, offering free diagnostics and dialysis services, and ‘Nirmal’, which focuses on strengthening support services in public health facilities, with a five-year budget of ₹5,174.79 crore.
Further, the Cabinet cleared a new rural infrastructure scheme under the Rural Development Department, allocating ₹426 crore for road construction and upgrades across all 142 Assembly constituencies over three years.
Additionally, a proposal by the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department concerning the Odisha Veterinary Technical Service was also approved, aiming to streamline recruitment and service conditions in the sector.
