CM Mohan Majhi Pushes for Tech-Driven Justice System in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 8 2025: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called for a major digital overhaul of the state’s justice system to enhance speed, transparency, and accessibility. Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of India’s new criminal laws at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi proposed the integration of digital tools such as e-FIRs, e-summons, and e-evidence systems to streamline legal processes.

He also emphasized the need for improved coordination among courts, jails, hospitals, and forensic labs through video conferencing, allowing witnesses and experts to testify remotely. “Digital tools will simplify the process and ensure timely justice delivery,” the Chief Minister said.

As part of this initiative, 32 mobile forensic vans will soon be deployed across Odisha to strengthen on-site crime investigation and evidence collection. The CM further directed that serious cases involving mob lynching, extremism, and organized crime be handled exclusively by officers of SP rank or above.

Progress was noted in training, with over 98% of police personnel already trained under the new legal framework. Additionally, the state is upgrading forensic labs, creating 247 new forensic and cyber forensic posts, and adding 267 positions in the prosecution wing. Amendments are also underway to align state prosecution rules with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Majhi reiterated that inter-agency coordination and technological advancement are key to delivering faster, fairer justice for all citizens.
