9th May 2025: With the Kharif season approaching, the Odisha government has appealed to the Centre for timely assistance to ensure smooth agricultural operations and protect the interests of farmers across the state.
At a recent strategy meeting with officials from the Union Agriculture Ministry, state representatives raised several concerns, including unpredictable weather patterns, pest risks, and the rising cost of farming inputs. They requested additional support under various Central schemes, particularly the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, to provide financial security to farmers in case of crop failure.
The state also called for timely supply of quality seeds, fertilizers, and better irrigation support. Officials stressed the importance of greater flexibility in Central policies so that aid can be more effectively tailored to Odisha’s unique agricultural needs.
With agriculture being a primary livelihood for a majority of the state’s population, the government emphasized that proactive support from the Centre would be crucial in ensuring a productive and stable Kharif season this year.
