Low Pressure Area in Arabian Sea Likely to Intensify into Depression

Bhubaneswar, May 22 – A cyclonic circulation over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining north Karnataka-Goa coast has developed into a low-pressure area by Wednesday evening, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is expected to intensify into a depression by Thursday while moving northwards over the sea.

The IMD forecasts that the system will strengthen further over the next 36 hours, supported by favorable atmospheric conditions.

In addition, the southwest monsoon is likely to advance over the Kerala coast within the next 3–4 days, aided by this developing system. Currently, the monsoon has already progressed into parts of the southern Arabian Sea, Maldives, and southern Bay of Bengal.

As a result of the low-pressure system, widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected throughout the week along the west coast, including Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, and Gujarat.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised fishermen and coastal residents to stay alert.
