East Coast Railway Boosts Monsoon Readiness to Ensure Safe Train Services

Bhubaneswar, May 31: With the early onset of the southwest monsoon this year, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has stepped up its preparations to guarantee safe and smooth train operations, especially in areas prone to flooding and other weather-related risks.

As part of the annual monsoon safety measures across Indian Railways, ECoR has implemented multiple precautions including clearing drainage systems, closely monitoring weather updates, and increasing patrol frequency along vulnerable sections of the track.

The General Manager of ECoR, Parmeshwar Funkwal, has reviewed the monsoon readiness plans, emphasizing continuous surveillance and rapid response protocols. Key actions include cleaning silt and overgrown vegetation from drainage channels to ensure proper water flow, clearing debris around bridge structures, and marking danger zones clearly on bridge supports.

Special attention has been given to sensitive routes such as Kottavalasa-Kirandul (KK) and Koraput-Rayagada (KR) where protective nets and geological surveys are in place to minimize risks from landslides and falling rocks.

Field staff including patrolmen and maintenance teams have been deployed in high-risk locations, and engineering units have positioned relief vehicles and essential materials like boulders and ballast nearby to respond promptly to emergencies.

ECoR’s Control Office along with the Disaster Management Cell remains operational 24/7, coordinating closely with regional weather agencies and state irrigation authorities to anticipate weather changes and manage water discharge effectively.

These comprehensive efforts reflect ECoR’s dedication to maintaining secure, reliable, and resilient railway services throughout the challenging monsoon season.
