Bhubaneswar/Tirunelveli, July 11, 2025: As part of Odisha’s ambitious vision for clean energy by 2036 and 2047, Tata Power’s state-of-the-art solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, is set to play a key role in supporting the state’s green transition.
With an investment of approximately ₹5,000 crore, the Tirunelveli plant is India’s largest integrated solar manufacturing facility, producing high-efficiency solar cells and modules using TopCon and Monoperc technologies. The plant boasts an annual production capacity of 4.3 GW, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy sector.
What makes this initiative even more noteworthy is the strong gender inclusion at the facility — 80% of the workforce comprises women, setting a new benchmark in industrial workforce diversity.
Strengthening Odisha’s Solar Ambitions
In line with the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and Odisha government’s clean energy policies, Tata Power aims to install 3 lakh rooftop solar systems across the state in the next three years. The company has launched its ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign from Bhubaneswar to encourage residential adoption.
To make solar adoption affordable and accessible:
- Customers can get rooftop solar systems for as low as ₹2,499 per kilowatt, thanks to subsidies and flexible financing.
- Tata Power offers 24×7 monitoring and maintenance support to ensure uninterrupted service.
- The company is working to raise awareness about subsidy benefits and streamline installation through dedicated customer assistance.
Building a Skilled Green Workforce in Odisha
Tata Power is also establishing four Tata Power Skill Development Institutes (TPSDIs) in Odisha to train manpower required for installation, operations, and maintenance of solar projects. These centers aim to train 12,000 individuals by next year, enhancing the availability of skilled professionals in the renewable energy sector.
Additionally, under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Tata Power is investing in the socio-economic development of communities around its facilities, ensuring inclusive growth and empowerment.
Conclusion:
Odisha’s partnership with Tata Power is a testament to the state’s commitment to sustainable development. With large-scale rooftop installations, skill-building programs, and strategic investments in clean technology, Odisha is well on track to become a national leader in renewable energy.
