Jeypore,2nd Aug 2025: The District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jeypore is set to begin Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services shortly, bringing much-needed relief to critically ill patients in the region. With this, patients will no longer have to travel to private hospitals or the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College in Koraput for emergency care.
The ICU will function from the newly built seven-storey block within the hospital premises, with the unit being set up on the second floor. It will initially accommodate six patients, equipped with 24-hour oxygen supply, ventilators, and other life-saving devices.
Hospital authorities confirmed that trained medical professionals, including critical care doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists, are already in place to manage the ICU. The staff had previously gained experience during the COVID-19 pandemic by operating the District COVID Hospital, which earned statewide recognition for its effective service.
The State Government has greenlit the required equipment procurement, and delivery is expected soon. If all components arrive on time, the ICU is targeted to be operational by the end of August.
Additionally, efforts are underway to introduce MRI and CT scan facilities at the hospital, aiming to reduce patient dependency on distant or private diagnostic centers. Construction of a Critical Care Block (SSB) is also in its final phase, after which more services will be shifted to the new building.
Currently, except for ophthalmology, pediatrics, and maternity departments, all other OPDs and wards are functioning in the new building. Due to the absence of ICU and advanced diagnostic services like MRI/CT, patients have been facing financial and logistical burdens—an issue repeatedly raised by various public forums.
