Maa Annapurna SHG Launches Lemon‑Based Bio‑Product Unit in Nuaguda, Malkangiri

Malkangiri, 5th Aug 2025: A notable self-reliance initiative was launched in Nuaguda under Malkangiri Sadar Subdivision, where Maa Annapurna Self Help Group (SHG) started producing lemon-flavored organic consumables. Using locally cultivated lemongrass and organic methods, the women of the group have begun manufacturing value-added products like lemon oil and juice concentrates.

The inauguration was carried out by Chitrakonda MLA Shri Mangu Koli, in the presence of key officials including Haldhar Sabar, Project Manager of ITDA, Malkangiri, and SMB representatives Bishwanath Mishra, Jagannath Koli, Pragati Panigrahi, along with several SHG leaders from nearby villages.

While various government schemes have provided equipment and training to tribal communities, there is concern about administrative neglect in certain tribal-dominated Fifth Schedule areas. Despite such challenges, women from Markapali village have shown the way by embracing organic livelihoods through lemongrass cultivation and processing.

Other dignitaries present included SHG leaders Haribala Sisha, Radhuka Krishani, Radharani Anugu, Kasulama Anugu, and Kamala Kabasi, as well as trainer Sushanta Kumar Das, market liaison Sonu Anugu, and senior journalist Durjyodhan Patra. Social workers Sania Kabasi, G. Shrinivas (Chitabhu), Keshu Rao, and Parshuram Bhakta, among others, also attended.

The event marked a step forward in tribal women’s economic empowerment, showcasing their growing interest and ability to adopt sustainable, eco-friendly enterprises.
