Rajnagar,11th Aug 2025: In the second flood of the Brahmani River, about 20,000 people in four panchayats under Rajnagar block have been affected. The administration has not yet been able to reach the flood-trapped victims. But in this adverse situation, two doctors have set an inspiring example by risking their lives—wading through floodwaters to reach a pregnant woman, bringing her to the hospital on a trolley, and providing treatment.
In Chakibanka village of Bandhapada panchayat under Rajnagar block, Sanghamitra, the wife of Prasanna Kumar Raut, was pregnant after 12 years of marriage. Early this morning, she began experiencing labor pains. Her family members called the Rajnagar Community Health Center. Upon receiving the news, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rashmiranjan Mohanty, and Dr. Manoranjan Nath reached Adhajodi, about 1 km from the village, at around 11 a.m. However, there was no boat arranged by the administration to go from there to the village.
Determined to provide immediate care to the pregnant woman, the two doctors tied towels around themselves, stepped into the floodwaters, and walked toward the village. The water was three feet deep, and since there was a fear of crocodiles, the doctors carried sticks in their hands for safety. They reached the woman’s house and, with the help of villagers and her family, placed her on a trolley and brought her to Adhajodi. From there, she was taken by ambulance to the Rajnagar health center. After primary treatment, she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
By their courageous act, the two doctors have won the praise of the local residents.
