Jeypore,14th Aug 2025: Residents of Mundiguda OCC Colony, Cement Store, and Silwayee Cine Colony under Bareniput Gram Panchayat in Jeypore block of Koraput district have approached the Jeypore Sub-Collector seeking action to stop liquor sales and gambling in their areas.
According to the residents, they have been living in these colonies for over 50 years. In recent times, liquor trade and gambling have been on the rise in these colonies. From adult men to young boys, many are getting addicted to alcohol and gambling.
Men in the colony are skipping work to drink and gamble, leading to unrest and tension within families. To fund their addictions, people are even selling household gold ornaments and food supplies. Several individuals have already lost their lives due to excessive drinking. Children are also skipping school, spending their time drinking and gambling, which has worsened the situation.
The residents stated that the spread of liquor and gambling has created a disruptive and unsafe environment in the colonies. They have therefore sought the intervention of the Jeypore Sub-Collector to put an end to these activities.
