Green Initiatives Highlighted at Environment Panchayat Program

Jeypore, 14th Aug 2025: An Environment Panchayat program was held in the Koraput Courts premises. The chief guest was Koraput MLA Raghuram Machh, while the special guests included Courts Director and environmentalist P.C. Mahapatra, and senior advocate Ajit Patra.

It was recalled that Koraput was once called a “heaven on earth,” known for its enchanting environment, lush forests, and surrounding hills, which attracted many tourists. Koraput is often referred to as the “second Kashmir.” However, in recent years, the district has been witnessing changes in its climate.

Speakers emphasized that earlier, people here did not even use fans, but now living without a fan or air conditioning has become difficult. They stressed the urgent need to restore the climate. The MLA urged every individual in the district to plant at least two trees every year. Creating artificial forests and ensuring the preservation and maintenance of existing ones could help reduce the impact of climate change to some extent.

The program saw participation from students of various colleges, local organizations, and residents.
