National Handloom Day & Unity Day Celebrated Together in Koraput

Koraput ,19th Aug 2025: National Handloom Day and Unity Day were observed in Koraput district, with the annual training center inaugurated by the District Collector, Manoj Satyajnan Mahalan.

This day is celebrated every year on August 7 to commemorate the swadeshi movement that gained momentum during the Bengal partition. Historically, on August 7, 1905, a declaration was made in Kolkata Town Hall to boycott foreign goods and encourage Indian products. Training programs are planned in the coming days to empower women and make them self-reliant. A sewing center has also been established to facilitate skill development. Special emphasis has been given to handloom weaving in Kotpad, Koraput district.
