Malkangiri ,22nd Aug 2025: An elderly couple from Barampar Panchayat, Kalimela area of Malkangiri district, has applied for a house under the government housing scheme but has not yet received one.
The couple, Biren Mandal (mentally challenged) and his wife Suchitra Mandal from MPV-39 village of Durgam Bhajanigaon Panchayat, remain without a house under the scheme. The elderly couple is reportedly disheartened by the delay.
Currently, they receive 1,000 rupees per month as allowance and 35 kg of rice per month under government support, but they have no children to assist them. Their mud house gets soaked during rains, and they have covered it with plastic sheets, leaving them in a vulnerable and pitiable condition. At times, the roof may even collapse, posing a serious risk.
The villagers have appealed to the authorities to provide a house to this helpless elderly couple as soon as possible.
