Irregular Fertilizer Supply: Farmers’ Body Seeks Action From Collector

Malkangiri, 25th Aug 2025: The Malkangiri District Farmers’ Organization submitted a memorandum to the District Collector on Thursday regarding irregularities in the supply of urea fertilizer.

The memorandum stated that although paddy cultivation has already begun in areas like Tandiki, Chalanguda, Matapaka, Shikhapalli, Gorakhunta, Chitrangpalli, Badali, Mandapalli, Niliguda, and Materu, farmers are facing obstacles due to an acute shortage of urea fertilizer.

It was mentioned that despite the rule of supplying urea every Monday through LAMPS (Large Area Multipurpose Societies), no distribution has been made in the past month. Moreover, the quantity of urea being supplied to LAMPS is very low, making it difficult for all farmers to get fertilizer on time.

With agricultural activities underway, the failure to apply urea fertilizer at the right time could damage the crops. Alongside these irregularities, black marketing of fertilizer has also been reported, forcing many farmers to purchase it at higher prices.

The memorandum demanded that within three days, arrangements must be made to provide urea fertilizer to all farmers.

During the submission of the memorandum, District Farmers’ Organization President Era Padiami, along with leaders Kanaya Durua, Rajendra Kabasi, Lakhma Baka, Samparu Madkami, Lachhmu Kabasi, Ishwar Madkami, and Deba Muchaki, as well as more than 30 farmers, were present.
