Bhubaneswar, 26th Aug 2025: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping human lifestyles. It is not just technology or economic power but also a manifestation of collective knowledge. Without AI, Data Science, and Data Management, development is not possible today.
India is emerging as a global leader in the IT industry. Be it AI or ChatGPT, Indians have played a significant role in these innovations. Many Indians hold top positions in global tech giants like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta, contributing with their skills and expertise.
This was highlighted by Prof. T.G. Sitaram, Chairman of AICTE, while addressing the convocation ceremony of Bhavan’s Centre for Communication and Management (BCCM) held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, on Sunday.
Higher Education Crucial for Developed India 2047
Prof. Sitaram stressed that higher education will play a vital role in achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047.”
India’s Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education is currently 29%, much lower than developed nations (65%).
The target is to raise GER to 50% by 2035.
For this, reforms and strategies must begin at the grassroots.
He noted that while mid-day meal schemes have improved primary school enrollments, students often lack interest in higher education. The government is working on welfare schemes to address this challenge.
He also urged more focus on product development, innovation, and startups, which can reduce dependence on foreign countries and create positive societal impact.
