Bhubaneswar, 1st Sept 2025: In a recent meeting held in Bhubaneswar, the Level V (A) Primary Teachers’ Union has issued a warning of an impending protest if the government does not implement a 4200 grade pay for primary teachers before the upcoming Odisha Legislative Assembly session.
Under the leadership of Gadei Prakash Narayan Jena, the meeting discussed the long-standing issue of unequal pay scales for primary teachers in the state. The union members pointed out that despite over 70,000 primary teachers working under the state government, many have been receiving a 2000-2200 grade pay, which is not in line with the pay scales followed in other states across India. This situation has been termed as unconstitutional by the union, emphasizing that the disparity in pay is leading to frustration and a sense of injustice among teachers.
The teachers are demanding that the 4200 grade pay be made available to them, which would be in line with other educational institutions across the country. If their demands are not met before the Monsoon Assembly session, the union has promised to launch a full-scale protest at the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
The meeting saw the presence of key figures such as Pradeep Behera, Vivekananda Behera, Malay Kumar Jena, Sunil Kumar Pradhan, and Lalit Narayan Raut, who spoke in favor of the movement. The union has made it clear that the protest will continue until their demand is addressed.
This development underscores the rising discontent among teachers in the state, especially with regards to fair pay and working conditions. The government will need to address these concerns if it hopes to avoid further unrest in the education sector.
