Harichandanpur,8th Sept 2025: On the road from the Harichandanpur Block Sunapencha Panchayat office via Kamalangi and Mahulgoda, vehicular movement was disrupted today due to a 5-foot-deep water flow in the Bagira canal. Residents from villages like Badashiadimal, Juwanibeda, Durgamela, Kamalangi, Dalki, Baishmamandali, and Gopinathpur usually travel this route to reach the panchayat office for collecting PDS rice and pension benefits.
No bridge has been constructed over the Bagira canal near Mahulgoda Sahi. Due to continuous rainfall, the water level in the canal rose significantly this afternoon. As the water did not recede for a long time, school-going children could not return home.
It is noteworthy that around 20 to 25 students from Viratsahi in Nipania village cross this canal daily to attend Nipania Primary School, Sunapencha Upper Primary School, and the High School. Due to the heavy rain this afternoon, about 5 feet of water was flowing through the Bagira canal. After school was over, the students were stranded on the opposite side of the canal.
As the children couldn’t return home, their parents had to take alternative routes and cross through fields to bring them back. Due to the absence of a bridge over the canal, villagers are constantly facing difficulties in reaching the panchayat office and commuting in general.
Local residents from Viratsahi – Pandab Munda, Chandra Munda, Rand Munda, Jange Munda, and Kochila Munda – have demanded that the district administration immediately take steps to construct a bridge over the Bagira canal.
