Roadmap Planned for Coffee Growth in Koraput: 4 Lakh Hectares Potential Identified

Koraput, 11th Sept 2025: There is potential for coffee cultivation on 4 lakh hectares of land in Koraput district. However, currently, only 4,000 hectares are being cultivated despite favorable climate, proper infrastructure, and unique flavor.
Even though Koraput coffee has a distinct taste and growing conditions, it has not yet made a significant mark in global markets.

During his three-day visit to Koraput, Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati directed the Coffee Board and District Administration to jointly prepare a roadmap to attract coffee farmers from other states to expand cultivation in the region.

While visiting the Coffee Board’s stall and plantations, the Governor interacted with farmers, SHG (Self-Help Group) women, and officials. He praised the unique flavor of Koraput coffee.

Speaking to the media, the Governor stated that since Koraput is a scheduled area, there are challenges in transferring government land to individuals from general categories. Therefore, he emphasized the need to attract private farmers to cultivate coffee on their own lands, and suggested that steps be taken in this direction.
