Food Festival Showcases Variety of Nutritious Ragi Dishes

Jharinga, 11th Sept 2025:  A Food Festival focused on Ragi (Mandia)—a highly nutritious millet—was organized on Tuesday in the Panchayat Office premises, under the initiative of Harsha Trust as part of the “Shri Anna Abhiyan”. The event aimed to promote awareness about traditional farming practices and millet-based food through a food fair and exhibition.

During the festival, various nutritious and tasty Ragi-based dishes were showcased, accompanied by discussions on the nutritional value and health benefits of millet-based foods.

As part of the Shri Anna campaign, this food fair and exhibition was graced by:

Sarpanch Chaitanya Gand,

CDPO Biraja Mohini Pangi,

Block Coordinator of Shri Anna Abhiyan, Bibhuti Bhushan Swain,

Supervisor Manjari Ghosh,

MBK Baijayanti Tiwari,

Along with Anganwadi workers from Phupugaon, Banua Guda, and Bhalukanadi Panchayats.

The event emphasized creating a sustainable market for millet-based products in the future, encouraging Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to prepare and sell food items made from millets. The Shri Anna Abhiyan aims to intensify the participation of women’s SHGs across the state to promote millets as part of the national nutrition movement.

During the food festival, a variety of nutritious and flavorful Ragi dishes were displayed, including:

Ragi Khiri (Sweet Porridge),

Ragi Pitha (Steamed Cake),

Ragi Kakara (Stuffed Cake),

Ragi Arisa,

Ragi Upma,

Ragi Pakodi, and

Ragi Dahi Bara.

These dishes not only highlighted traditional culinary art but also promoted healthy eating habits using local and sustainable ingredients.
