Lamtaput Hosts Bhima Bhoi Camp for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities

Jeypore, 25th Sept 2025:  A Bhima Bhoi Divyang Empowerment Camp was organized by the Lamtaput Block Administration in Koraput district. The primary objective of the camp was to identify persons with disabilities (PwDs), issue them disability certificates, and link them with various government welfare schemes and services.

During the camp, 215 PwDs from 15 Gram Panchayats under Lamtaput Block were registered. Among them:

  • Orthopedic disabilities – 57
  • Paralysis and related disorders – 20
  • Hearing and speech impairments – 36
  • Mental illness – 53
  • Sickle cell and others – 49

Specialist doctors from Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College, District Headquarters Hospital, Koraput, and Jeypore conducted medical assessments and issued disability certificates to the eligible individuals.

Notably, a person named Prakash Rao from Shreepala underwent an eye examination and was immediately issued a visual disability certificate on-site. Additionally, 4 orthopedic patients were provided with wheelchairs.

The event was organized and managed under the leadership of Block Livelihood Officer Jayanta Kumar Meher, with support from:

  • Block Social Security Officer Surendra Gumagudia
  • Junior Assistant Jagannath Nayak
  • Junior Teacher Jagannath Khemundu
  • Program Assistant Shiba Khemundu
  • Other staff of the Lamtaput Block Office

From the Lamtaput Community Health Centre, free medicines for various ailments were distributed to the attending PwDs and senior citizens.

Volunteers and students from the local degree college, along with members of SPREAD (NGO) and Ashakiran Society, actively assisted doctors with medical checkups and support for PwDs throughout the camp.
