Nabarangpur, 7th Oct 2025: Shopkeepers who had taken stalls on lease were not paying rent. With over four years of unpaid rent, the outstanding amount has now exceeded Rs6 lakh. As a result, the Regulated Market Committee (RMC) of Nabarangpur was compelled to seal six stalls located on Gandhinagar Road, under its jurisdiction.
According to RMC Secretary Kapilendra Sasmal, the sealing was carried out today in the presence of police, a magistrate, and Additional Tahsildar Namita Pradhan. The locks of stalls numbered 13, 16, 24, 27, 28, and 29 were broken open and the stalls were sealed.
Outstanding Dues for Each Sealed Stall:
Stall No. 13: Rs80,828
Stall No. 16: Rs90,013
Stall No. 24: Rs1,26,763
Stall No. 27: Rs1,17,568
Stall No. 28: Rs1,01,035
Stall No. 29: Rs99,198
These shopkeepers have failed to pay the stall rent, despite multiple notices.
Meanwhile, many other people are interested in doing business and are seeking stalls, but these remain locked and unpaid for.
The RMC office, located near Hatapada area of Nabarangpur, has constructed 98 stalls along the surrounding roads. The monthly rent for each stall is fixed at ₹1,837. However, tenants of 20 stalls have pending dues.
In this first phase, six stalls have been sealed. If the remaining 14 stallholders fail to clear their dues soon, those stalls will also be sealed, said Secretary Sasmal.
As of August, the total outstanding amount from these 20 stalls stood at Rs6,15,045.
