Nabarangpur Hosts District-Level Celebration of 8th Poshan Maah

Nabarangpur, 13th Oct 2025:  The district-level observance of the 8th National Nutrition Month was held at the central venue in Nabarangpur under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (Revenue), Bishwajit Barman.

Key participants in the program included:

  • Chief Development Officer of Zilla Parishad Biranji Narayan Darwan,
  • ADPHO Dr. Malay Tripathy,
  • District Welfare Officer Ravindra Palaka,
  • District Social Welfare Officer Droupadi Kahanar,
  • DSASO Sudhanshu Patra,
  • DCPO Suresh Pattnaik,
  • DPC (Mamata), Mission Shakti officials,
  • CDPOs, Anganwadi workers, supervisors, and other staff.

DSWO Droupadi Kahanar gave an overview of the observance and, in her address, emphasized the following key points:

  • Prevention of obesity through controlled intake of sugar, salt, and oil,
  • Proper nutrition and education from early childhood,
  • Balanced and nutritious diets for young children and adolescents,
  • Involvement of men in nutrition initiatives,
  • Encouragement of locally available food sources in meal planning.

ADPHO Dr. Tripathy informed the gathering about the start of the campaign “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” on 17th September, as part of Nutrition Month. Under this initiative, health checkups are being conducted for:

  • Blood pressure,
  • Diabetes,
  • Cancer screening for women,
  • Anemia (including Pneumonia),
  • Tuberculosis,
  • Sickle Cell Disease,
  • Regular check-ups for pregnant women,
  • Counseling for adolescent girls regarding mental health.
    A special medical unit has also been established.

Agriculture Officer Anil Praharaj encouraged families to set up kitchen gardens at home and to ensure vaccination for children. He also advised including traditional millet-based foods like mandia (ragi) in daily meals.

In his concluding remarks, the Additional District Magistrate emphasized that the participation of men is essential for societal progress alongside ensuring good health among women.
